Saturday Oct. 14 the Birbas appeared right on schedule in the halls of the School so that all the firstgraders could climb on board. Last Stop: The Library!

And so the journey among books and stories read and performed begins … it will last for all five years the children are at St. Anthony’s.

As always, many teachers and parents were there, too. To see the library so crowded, so full of people who share our dream and our conviction that school libraries are important, made us all very happy!

BIRBA introduced itself to the children; the children introduced themselves to BIRBA, too. In amusing skits, the library rules were all thoroughly explained and our volunteer librarians explained, too, what a library is and all the services BIRBA would be offering them.

The inaugural BIRBA reading was, of course,  A Fish is A Fish by Leon Lionni. A perfect way to welcome the children and celebrate true friendship which celebrates and honors individuality and difference!
